Washington - Those who want a copy of the new Windows 7 now should download it only from Microsoft's website. That's because cyber-criminals are currently passing around a version that includes something that looks like a setup file for the operating system but which is instead a Trojan, warns the German Federal Agency for Security in Information Technology (BSI) in Bonn. The agency draws its information from a report from the IT security firm Trend Micro. The Trojan can infect computers running Windows 98, ME, NT, 2000, XP and Server 2003. It stores itself in the Temp directory, with the appearance of an old system file with the date 27 April 2003. Windows 7 is currently in the Release Candidate stage. That is the last development stage prior to the final commercial version, expected no later than the first quarter of 2010. It is available for download at www.microsoft.com/windows/windows-7/download.aspx.
