Rio de Janeiro - Three alleged criminals died Friday in Brazil during a clash with police officers in an anti-drug raid in the Rio de Janeiro slum of Pavao-Pavaozinho. Police said the raid sought a criminal who allegedly leads drug trafficking in that area, who is also suspected of having ordered several killings in the town of Niteroi, 13 kilometres away from Rio. The incident also caused panic in the well-known neighbourhood of Copacabana. The suspect was not arrested, but officers arrested another man charged with having murdered a police officer in November. Three other suspects were also arrested. Police further seized a small amount of cocaine, a gun, ammunition and a T-shirt with the logo of Rio's Special Operations Police Battallion (BOPE).
