Kuala Lumpur - Two people were killed and seven others seriously injured when an interstate passenger bus and a trailer collided along a Malaysian highway, a news report said Tuesday. The dead victims were identified as trailer driver Khairil Nizam Mohamed, 31, and 32-year old bus passenger Sabariah Arif, the Star online news portal said.
The bus, which was carrying 21 passengers, was believed to have veered into the oncoming fertiliser-laden trailer late Monday night, central Pahang state police officer Zainalabidin Othman said.
He said police were still investigating.
The bus driver and six other passengers were taken to a nearby hospital where they were reported to be in serious condition, the report said.
Fatal accidents involving interstate holiday buses have risen in recent years, with investigations revealing that many were more than a decade old and poorly maintained.
