Brussels - The Belgian authorities on Friday confirmed two more cases of swine flu in the country, bringing to four the total of cases identified in the last 48 hours. A special governmental commission set up to control any possible outbreak of the disease made the announcement, the Belga news agency said. The identity of the latest victims is not yet known.
The news comes a day after the commission confirmed that a 23-year-old man from the Flemish port of Antwerp had caught the disease after a visit to New York and Los Angeles.
And it follows the announcement Wednesday that a 28-year-old Flemish man from near the town of Ghent had tested positive for the new form of swine flu, having just returned from a visit to New York and Chicago.
According to Flemish broadcaster VRT, the man was "doing well" and was eager to return home, but would be kept in quarantine for five days as a precaution.
The Belgian authorities have also placed some 20 people known to have had contact with the returning travellers in quarantine for a week, the influenza commission said.
