Brussels - The European Union on Friday gave Iraq an extra 20 million euros (27 million dollars) to help refugees inside and outside the country, the EU's executive said. The European Commission aid package is intended to provide Iraqis who have fled their homes amidst ongoing security concerns with food, clean water, health care, counselling and help to return home, the Brussels-based body said in a statement.
It will be administered by international organizations such as the United Nations and the Red Cross and Red Crescent to refugee populations in Iraq, Syria and Jordan.
Over the last two years, the commission has sent close on 50 million euros in aid to Iraq's refugees.
