Manila - Two police officers were killed and six injured when they were struck by lightning in a mountainous Philippine province, a police spokesman said Friday. The victims were members of a team that on Thursday surveyed a possible location for a police station in Malibcong town in Abra province, 345 kilometres north of Manila.
Inspector Palmera Domingo, spokesman for the Abra Provincial Police, said the victims were resting on hammocks tied to trees when the lightning struck.
"They were in the area to conduct reconnaissance operations because there is a plan to put up a police station there," he said.
Domingo said the injured, including the team's leader, were rushed to the provincial hospital for treatment. They were declared to be out of danger.
