London - British pop singer Boy George has been released from prison early after being jailed for attacking a male escort with a metal chain, it was reported Tuesday. The 47-year-old singer left Edmunds Hill prison in Suffolk, south- east Britain, Monday, it was reported.

He had been sentenced to 15 months in January for attacking Audun Carlsen, a Norwegian man, after imprisoning and handcuffing him at the singer's London home.

Boy George, whose real name is George O'Dowd, is expected to wear a tag during the remaining 11 months of his sentence.

In 2006 he was given community service in New York after pleading guilty to falsely reporting a burglary at his apartment in the city.
