Zagreb - A Croatian politician who was sentenced on Friday to 10 years in prison for the murder of Serbs during the 1992-95 wars has fled to neighbouring Bosnia, Croatian police said. In a press release issued on Saturday night, Croatian police said they had no authority to restrict Branimir Glavas' movement nor take any other measures since he has the parliamentary immunity.
Glavas, 52, was sentenced on Friday to 10 years in prison for the murder of Serbs in Osjek, eastern Croatia. Croatian media on Saturday reported that he fled to Bosnia since he has dual Croatian and Bosnian nationality.
Glavas is not officially on the run since he is a member of parliament and still has immunity. Parliament's immunity commission has to convene and strip him of it and, according to local media, will do so in the next few days.
The police will start the search once the immunity has been removed.
