Berlin - Despite the current economic crisis, the number of apprenticeship spots in Germany's IT sector grew in 2008. Some 15,785 training positions were filled for IT jobs, 6 per cent more than in 2007, according to figures compiled by tech industry association BITKOM, using data from the German Association of Chambers of Commerce and Industry.
The most popular position was IT specialist with 11 per cent more training spots filled than in 2007. The number of training positions for IT system electronics technicians also grew by 2 per cent. Commercial IT fields sagged in popularity, ending up with a roughly 3 per cent year-over-year drop.
Apprenticeship positions in the IT field are not just for computer freaks, BITKOM emphasizes. A taste for math and physics and a finely developed logical mind are key.
Even if many apprenticeship positions require an electronic application, a few rules still apply: a good written presentation, correct spelling and a solid resume are all crucial components when human resources managers have to make a decision.
