Manama, Bahrain - Bahraini health officials reported Thursday that tests on the Gulf island's first suspected case of swine flu showed the man does not have the disease. Health Minister Dr Faisal al Hamer said a 41-year-old US citizen travelling from Washington, DC to Bahrain via Frankfurt, Germany had been quarantined after registering high fever upon arrival at Bahrain International Airport.
The man was first transferred to a private hospital, before being moved to the quarantine ward at the country's main hospital. The minister said the patient was set to be discharged after undergoing extensive testing that showed him to be medically clear.
