London - The number of people infected with swine flu in Britain has risen to five, Prime Minister Gordon Brown told parliament Wednesday. He said a 12-year old schoolgirl and two adults had tested positive for the virus, in addition to two cases confirmed in Scotland Monday.
All of those affected had recently returned from Mexico.
The two adults who tested positive for the infection were from London and Birmingham respectively.
The school attended by the girl in Torbay, in the south-western county of Devon, has been temporarily closed.
The prime minister said all three new victims had mild symptoms and were responding well to treatment.
In Scotland, a honeymoon couple who recently returned from Mexico was also reported to be improving.
A further 23 suspected cases are under investigation in Britain.
