Syracuse, Italy - Capitalism may be reeling from the global financial crisis, but the private sector remains the key to achieving the "green revolution" needed to save the planet from global warming. Group of Eight (G8) environment ministers meeting in the Sicilian city of Syracuse stressed the point this week, inviting for the first time businesses such as Mitsubishi, BMW and General Electric to submit their views on how to speed up the spread of low-carbon technologies.
With a key global summit in Copenhagen on finding a successor to the Kyoto protocol regulating greenhouse gas emission cuts only months away, no one wants to be left behind.
"When we talk about financing, and the transfer of technology, private-public partnerships are crucial," Connie Hedegaard, Denmark's climate and energy minister, told the German Press Agency
