Jakarta - A German traveller reportedly went missing when travelling from East Kalimantan province to West Kalimantan on the Indonesian part of Borneo island, a police official said Thursday. Jason Clint Richard, born in Schwarzwald, reportedly left the East Kalimantan capital, Samarinda, in January, a West Kalimantan police spokesman said.

Brigadier Joko Marwoto said that according to a report from the Foreign Ministry, the man went missing when travelling on foot from Samarinda to Pontianak in West Kalimantan.

Accompanied by two local guides, he was last seen leaving the district of Sendawar in East Kalimantan in mid-March, but he and the guides split, leaving the man's whereabouts unclear since then, Joko said.

"[According to] information that we received, the man is a researcher on social affairs and culture," Joko said. "He was last seen on the upstream area of the Ratah River in the Laham district of East Kalimantan."

Reports about the missing German have been distributed to police offices across the province, he said. In addition, police called on the public to report any information about the man to the nearest police station or to a text-message hotline.
