Frankfurt - Bauhaus turns 90 this year, and for many designers, that's an occasion to bring remakes of Bauhaus classics to the market. At the interior design trade show Ambiente in mid February in Frankfurt, a number of porcelain and glassmakers showed variations of designs that originated in the avant-garde laboratory. Bauhaus was founded in 1919 in Weimar, in eastern Germany.

Examples include tea sets by KPM in Berlin as well as by Rosenthal in Selb. Bauhaus founder Walter Gropius designed the collection TAC in 1969 for Rosenthal. The set is being offered in the Bauhaus colours blue, yellow and red to mark the anniversary.

The Jenaer Glas company is bringing creations of the Bauhaus design out of the museum and into the kitchen with its Wilhelm- Wagenfeld collection. Aside from a tea set in glass, portion-sized casserole dishes were included in the remakes, led by a Wagenfeld original from the year 1933.
