London - Climate change protestors Tuesday held up traffic from a British airport after barricading the runway and climbing on to the roof of the terminal building, police said. However, seven supporters of the group Plane Stupid gave themselves up to the police after a a six-hour protest at Aberdeen airport in Scotland early Tuesday.
Two more remained on the roof of the terminal building.
Plane Stupid, which has staged major protests at London's Heathrow and Stansted airports in the past, said the demonstration in Aberdeen was against the planned extension of the airport to increase capacity.
Aberdeen, on the east coast of Scotland, is a major transport centre and its airport a hub for commercial flights as well as helicopter traffic to and from the North Sea oil platforms.
Reports said some of the protestors were disguised as golfers, underlining their opposition to plans by US-multi-millionaire Donald Trump to build a major new international golf resort on the coast near Aberdeen.
Airport operators said flights to London-Heathrow, Paris and Amsterdam were among those affected by the delays.
