With the end of the Harry Potter series looming large, the boy wizard has decided to grow up. Actor Daniel Radcliffe, the 17-year-old star of the money-spinning Harry Potter film series, has posed in the buff for promotional shots of his London West End debut Equus.

The shots feature a topless Radcliffe looking up at his half-naked co-star Joanna Christie, who plays his lover in Equus, the story of a psychologically-disturbed stable boy who has sexual fantasies about horses and enjoys torturing them. In another shot, the actor is naked with a white horse.

According to Equus producer David Pugh, Radcliffe has easily slipped out of his Harry Potter shoes to fit those of the protagonist of the play. “We had never seen him with his clothes off before. We all went 'Wow!'.

There was no hesitancy about taking his clothes off. He has a confidence in his own appearance. When that boy takes his shirt off, Harry Potter has flown out of Hogwarts for good,” he was quoted as saying. Pugh added that Radcliffe's well-toned physique made him an instant favorite with the play's director Thea Sharrock.

While the pictures have boosted Radcliffe's popularity among his female fans, they have left parents of young children less-than-impressed, with many asserting the racy shots will have a negative impact on the children who consider Harry Potter their hero.

Radcliffe's publicist Vanessa Davies, however, held that the teenaged actor now wants to experiment with different roles to shape his acting skills. “Daniel does not want to step away from Harry Potter but he does want to show he is a rounded actor capable of very different roles. He has tremendous support from Harry Potter fans,” she said to a top UK newspaper.

Written by Anthony Shaffer, Equus will debut on February 27 at the Gielgud Theater in London.

He has the right to do anything he wants because he is a human, not some good little harry potter boy like everyone thinks he is. He is an actor, thats what they do.

Acting!!!
By: Cypresswhisker , Tue, 20 Feb 2007 00:42:59 GMT

About the whole "we are free" thing, Daniel lives in England, so he isn't free (or as free) as us. lol, I just had to say that. BUT I have no problems with him acting. He's an actor, so let him act! It's not like HE'S A SICKO IN LOVE WITH HORSES. His character is a sicko in love with horses. I would think little of him if he didn't do what the role demanded.

DEAL WITH IT.
By: Adna , Wed, 14 Feb 2007 01:50:08 GMT

Okay. It was DANIELS decision to do this and as loyal "fans" you should respect it. Harry Potter is a fictional character. He's just some boy wizard that Daniel plays. Daniel is a COMPLETELY DIFFERENT REALLLLLLL PERSON. He has a right to do this if he wants to, and if you all think that you're just going to sit at your computer all day and try to be hardcore with the keyboard, then be my guest. You dont know him, therefore, you cannot say anything about his actions.

Thank you and good night.

Hey

I think that if he chooses to expose himself that is his choice. Many of the other actors we look up to have posed naked. Just because he did that does not mean he is not a great acotr.

Patents, imagine the suprise when your 9 year old asks you, "Mommy, Daddy, why can't I go see Daniel Radcliffe perform in such a complex and demanding role.? All my friends will be lining up for tickets and I'll feel like such a loser for not being able to go. I hate you, I hate you."

Daniel Radcliffe nude
By: Sarah , Fri, 02 Feb 2007 10:15:08 GMT

You know what, if you don't want your children to see this play, DON'T TAKE THEM. It's as simple as that. Parents have the right to censor what their kids see so why not just do that and stop complaining about an ACTOR for God's sakes.

Harry Potter and Daniel Radcliffe are two different people. One is real, and one is not.

Daniel Radcliff nude
By: D. Hampton , Thu, 01 Feb 2007 21:54:44 GMT

Yea MIchelle-thats because it's not your daughter getting naked on stage and you dont haqve a son.

BY the way he's 17-he is still a child and everyone, including his publisist should be brought up on child endangement and pronography charges.

Isnt it amazing, as soon as they go from nothing to famous and rich how they become ungrateful, rude and arrogant to those who made him famous and rich.

And to add insult to injury, children will be allowed to see this sickening paly also.

Daniel in Equus
By: Michelle , Thu, 01 Feb 2007 16:05:12 GMT

I very much agree that the disturbed parents of Potter fans should grow up. It should be known that Daniel Radcliffe is different from Harry Potter, however much people may want to believe he isn't. He is entitled to making his own choices in his career, he should be able to go further than the Harry Potter series. He is growing up, advancing in his acting skills, and parents should realize that.

Daniel Radcliffe 'Racy' Pix
By: Mike , Tue, 30 Jan 2007 19:06:32 GMT

It's high time that parents explain to their children that actors play roles and aren't the characters in real life. Radcliffe may owe his fame to the Potter movie series but he does not owe parents of children a say so in his career decisions. He should be commended for tacking a new, daring & far ranging role that will help give him a chance to not just be seen as Harry Potter. He's months away from being an official adult so what's the big deal? Parents expect everyone to coddle to their needs just because they have children. I don't mind it most times but this kind of crap is ridiculous. All the troubles in the world and "Oh, my! Harry Potter goes nude and my precious baby will be marred for life!" Please! Sometimes I think parents need to grow up more than children do!

Parents complain? Critics complaining about growing up? What is going on?
By: Sarah , Tue, 30 Jan 2007 15:08:49 GMT

Why not focus on the fact that Daniel is stretching his reach as a human being? Had it been any other 17 year old he would of been congratulated on being so prepared to make this performance come to life. Also congratulations to him for keeping his head about him, many much older 'stars' can never get out of a typecast but he has managed it. Doesn't that say something for his talent? Beautiful photographs, over-bearing critics unable to see him as anything other than 'Harry Potter' is what this comes down to in the end. I hold out my hopes for the intelligent talent that Daniel has going for him....

Daniel in the buff.
By: Michele , Tue, 30 Jan 2007 13:25:16 GMT

I think it is great. He has to do other challenging roles or he is going to get typed cast. Good for him. I have a daughter who is 16 and I have no problems with this at all.
