Frankfurt - A walkout by flight attendants on German flag carrier Lufthansa grounded flights at two German airports on Tuesday, airline and union representatives said. Lufthansa said it was cancelling 100 flights from Frankfurt and that 22 from Berlin were likely to be affected by the six-hour stoppage that began at 0600 (0500 GMT).
The airline said short-haul flights would be the worst hit, with delays like on some long-distance routes.
Last week a similar, three-hour strike led to 44 cancellations.
The union UFO, which represents 70 per cent of Lufthansa's 16,000 cabin crew, is seeking a 15-per-cent pay hike over the next 12 months. Lufthansa has offered 10 per cent, covering 14 months.
The union has refused to go along with deal for a lower pay raise agreed between the airline and another union representing cabin crew, Verdi.
Unions representing German railways staff said they would call pinpoint strikes on Thursday to support their own demands for pay rises from the state-run Deutsche Bahn.
The Transnet and GDBA unions are pushing for a 10 per cent hike and restrictions on night and weekend work for 130 employees.
