Rome - Israel is sending a convoy of 73 trucks to carry food and medical supplies to the Gaza Strip , Israel's ambassador in Rome told Italian Foreign Minister Franco Frattini, on Monday. Ambassador Gideon Meir said the supplies would reach Gaza by the end of the day, the Italian foreign ministry said in a statement.
Israel was also "studying" ways to ensure that power supplies are guaranteed to medical facilities in Gaza, Meir was quoted as saying in the statement.
Also on Monday, Frattini said he planned to visit the Palestinian Territories "as soon as the time is right," the ANSA news agency reported. He did not specify a date when this would take place.
Frattini reiterated Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi's government's view that "no negotiations" can take place with a "terrorist organization" like Hamas.
