Freiburg, Germany - A person can prolong their life span by 10 years by keeping their weight steady, eating a Mediterranean diet, exercising regularly and not smoking, reports the German Association of Sports Medicine and Prevention. The variety of foods consumed is just as important as the volume in relation to a person's weight. A Mediterranean diet with low carbohydrate levels is recommended.
Diets should consist of fruit, vegetables, multigrain products and very little meat. Regular exercise not only promotes a healthy feeling, but also helps people lose weight.
As smokers die on average 10 years earlier than non-smokers, kicking the habit is not the answer. Instead it would be better not to start smoking at all. Apart from that, tobacco consumption reduces a person's capability.
