Athens - The president of the Hellenic Football Federation (HFF) Vassilis Gagatsis resigned from his post Thursday in the wake of accusations that he forged signatures. Greek prosecutors claim Gagatsis used the forged signatures to lend financial support to football clubs in northern Greece with which he had close ties.
The case is expected to take place in January 2009. Gagatsis was head of the HFF when Greece celebrated its finest footballing hour by winning the European Championships in Portugal.
New presidential elections are set for January with local radio reporting that Vassilis Hatziapostolou with run the HFF in the interim period.
