Tokyo - Japan's benchmark Nikkei 225 Stock Average rebounded Wednesday as the Tokyo market followed the lead of Wall Street's overnight gains. The Nikkei rose above the psychologically significant 8,000 mark, adding 140.41 points or 1.79 per cent to 8004.10 points. The broader Topix index of all first-section issues was up 12.07 points, or 1.53 per cent to 799.19 points. On currency markets, the dollar was quoted at 93,47-52, compared to 93,27-30 Yen from Tuesday's 5 pm quote. The euro was quoted at 1.2720-25 dollar, compared to Tuesday's 5 pm quote of 1.2617-20 dollar, and at 118.92-97 Yen compared to Tuesday's 117.70-40 Yen.
