Prague - Tibet's exiled spiritual leader, the Dalai Lama, said Monday that there were no imminent plans for his visit to Taiwan. Speaking to reporters in Prague, he said his visit to the island, to which China makes a territorial claim, was "not planned, not fixed. We'll see."

The Dalai Lama recently expressed hopes that he could visit Taiwan in 2009 in what would be the first visit in seven years and a reversal in policy of avoiding the island in an effort not to anger China.

The Tibetan leader said the Chinese government opposed his visits to Taiwan although they were "non-political" but "spiritual." Beijing sees both Tibet and Taiwan as integral parts of its territory.
