Rome - Italy's government condemned Thursday the terrorist attacks in Mumbai, India, in which an Italian man was among those killed. "The attacks in India, that were almost certainly carried out by groups linked to al-Qaeda, confirm that terrorism remains the number one threat to the entire community of nations," Foreign Minister Franco Frattini said.
Frattini, in a television interview, also expressed condolences to the family of the Italian victim, Antonio De Lorenzo.
"We believe he was killed in a grenade explosion during one of the first attacks against hotels in the Indian city," Frattini said, without providing additional details.
Italian authorities still needed to determine with certainty if other Italian nationals were among the scores of people injuredin the attacks, Frattini said. At least 100 people were killed.
Also on Thursday, Italy's two houses of parliament held a minute's silence for the victims of the attacks.
