New Delhi - India has seen repeated major attacks in recent years, including:30 October 2008: Multiple bombings claim 81 lives and leave 400 injured in Guwahati and the western districts of Barpeta, Kokrajhar and Bongaigaon of the north-eastern state of Assam.

26 July 2008: At least 56 people are killed and over 150 injured as 16 bombs explode within a short period in the western city of Ahmedabad.

13 May 2008: At least 63 are killed and 118 injured when eight bombs are detonated in quick succession in the northwestern tourist city of Jaipur.

25 August 2007: Two attacks in the southern city of Hyderabad leave at least 42 dead and 50 injured. The attacks are at a laser show in a city park, and at a street restaurant.

19 February 2007: Two bombs explode aboard the "Freedom Train" express between New Delhi and the Pakistani city of Lahore, killing 69 people and injuring 60.

11 July 2006: Seven bombs are detonated in crowded suburban trains and at railway stations in the wqestern city of Mumbai, leaving 187 people killed and over 700 injured.

8 September 2006: At least 37 people are killed and 100 injured when two bombs explode at a Muslim festival in the western state of Maharashtra.

29 October 2005: At least 60 people are killed and over 250 injured when a series of explosions rock New Delhi three days before the Diwali festival.
