Paris - The European Union Council Presidency condemned on Monday in Paris the "increase of clashes in Georgia," expressing its "concern over the security of the international observers."Putting observers in danger cannot be accepted, the French-led presidency said, calling on all sides of the dispute in the South Caucasus to hold the agreement on a ceasefire.

Earlier Monday, two Georgian soldiers were killed by a landmine in a village near the Georgian breakaway region of South Ossetian, while one person was killed in an exchange of fire in breakaway region of Abkhazia on Saturday.

Fighting between Russian and Georgian troops erupted on August 8 in South Ossetia and later spread to Abkhazia.

A six-point ceasefire was later called, and more than 200 EU observers have been sent to monitor it in the border zones around Georgia's separatist regions.
