Dublin/London - The Irish government will decide in the coming weeks whether to hold a new referendum on the European Union's Lisbon Treaty, Irish Foreign Minister Micheal Martin told broadcaster RTE late Sunday. The treaty failed to pass a popular referendum in June, but the government could take actions ahead of a December 11 EU summit to call for a second vote, Martin said.

Ireland wants to present "part of a solution" in Brussels, he said, but noted no decisions have yet been reached.

In the June vote, 53.4 per cent of Irish voters rejected the treaty.
