Kuala Lumpur - Malaysia's High Court has sentenced two Indonesian men to hang after they were found guilty of trafficking drugs six years ago, a news report said Friday. Mohamad Idris and Jainudin, both 32, had pleaded not guilty to the charge of carrying 5,680 grams of cannabis in the capital Kuala Lumpur in September 2002.

Police had caught the two men with the drugs hidden in a bag, the official Bernama news agency said.

The duo, who are from Indonesia's Aceh province, later claimed they had no idea of the contents of the bag and had been paid to deliver it to a specific location.

However, the court ruled that the prosecution had provided sufficient proof to show that the two were involved in the drug ring and ordered for them to face the mandatory death sentence for drug trafficking.

Despite Malaysia's tough drug laws, drug trafficking continues to be rampant and drug abuse is a growing social problem with more than 33,000 drug addicts nabbed in 2005, according to government statistics.
