Tokyo - Stocks bounced back Friday in Tokyo on the back of Wall Street's overnight rises and the yen weakening against the dollar. The Nikkei 225 Stock Average rose 351.15 points, or 4.26 per cent, in morning trading to 8,589.79, as investors snapped up bargains.

The broader Topix index of all first-section issues was also up 23.11 points, or 2.76 per cent, to 860.64.

On currency markets at 9 am (0000 GMT), the dollar was quoted at 97.58-63 yen, up from Thursday's 5 pm quote of 95.65-67 yen. A weaker yen helps boost earnings of Japanese companies.

The euro was quoted at 1.2784-89 dollars, up from Thursday's 5 pm quote of 1.2407-08 dollars, and at 124.80-85 yen, up from 118.67-71 yen.
