Madrid - David Villa is really looking forward to Sunday. That's when the Euro 2008 top scorer will be trying to maintain his excellent goal run - and keep Valencia top of La Liga.
Villa is top scorer with eight goals in seven games. He has also built upon his Euro 2008 success by scoring in all four of Spain's World Cup qualifying games.
"Things are really good at the moment", said Villa late Wednesday.
"I feel good physically, and am enjoying every game. I just want my teams to carry on winning, whether I get to score the goals or someone else does."
Villa will be especially sharp on Sunday because he has finally had a week without a midweek game, since Valencia enjoy a UEFA Cup rest on Thursday.
Unai Emery's hard-working team have 19 points, two more than Sevilla and Villarreal.
On Wednesday Vicente Rodriguez - one of the many Valencia players revitalized by Emery - claimed that there were many similarities between today's team and that of Rafa Benitez which won the league in 2002 and 2004.
"We are getting back the same humility and attitude towards our work ... Now we are doing things well. We have a coach who knows what he wants and a squad with good players."
Later on Sunday, injury-plagued Sevilla are at home to Malaga, whilst Villarreal play hosts to troubled Atletico Madrid.
Defeat for Atletico, who are eighth, in Villarreal would put coach Javier Aguirre in massive danger.
Sunday's other big game sees Real Madrid at home to lowly Athletic Bilbao.
Real are joint fourth with Barcelona and keen to make up ground on Valencia. Ruud Van Nistelrooy will be suspended after being sent off in the late win over Atletico, but fellow Dutchman Arjen Robben will be fit to play.
Sunday's other games are: Getafe-Valladolid, Mallorca-Espanyol, Deportivo Coruna-Sporting Gijon and Numancia-Racing Santander.
The eighth round of games kicks off on Saturday with Jose Antonio Camacho's Osasuna at home to fellow strugglers Betis.
Later on Saturday, Barcelona will be looking for their ninth consecutive win, including Liga and Champions League - at home to Almeria.
Teenager Bojan Krkic will be hoping to keep his place after scoring twice in the 5-0 rout of FC Basel, but will almost certainly be put back on the bench by Josep Guardiola.
