New Delhi - Bollywood legend Amitabh Bachchan was Friday discharged from a hospital in India's western city of Mumbai where he was admitted last week following abdominal pain. The actor was admitted to the Lilavati Hospital on his 66th birthday on October 11. Doctors diagnosed Bachchan with incisional hernia from an earlier surgery.
Bachchan, accompanied by his actor son Abhishek and daughter-in-law Aishwarya Rai, waved at his fans before leaving the hospital for home Friday morning.
Doctors said that Bachchan had responded to the medication and had recovered after being put under observation for a week.
In November 2005, Bachchan underwent surgery for a bowel ailment at the same hospital.
Bachchan, popularly known as the Big B, has dominated Indian cinema since he quit his job as a freight broker in Calcutta and joined Bollywood nearly four decades ago.
The iconic star has acted in more than 160 films. BBC Online voted him "star of the millenium" above such Hollywood legends as Sir Lawrence Olivier and Charlie Chaplin.
