Madrid - Spanish former golfer Severiano Ballesteros was "stable" and "conscious" after undergoing surgery to remove a brain tumour, doctors said Wednesday in a medical report. The operation, performed at the La Paz Hospital in Madrid, started Tuesday morning and lasted 12 hours. According to the doctors, "no complications" were encountered.
"The patient is set to spend the post-operatory period in the Intensive Medicine unit. He is currently conscious and his condition is stable, although he will not be able to receive visitors in the next few days until he has recovered from the surgical procedure," the doctors' report said.
Ballesteros, 51, was admitted into hospital on October 6, after suffering from dizziness and loss of consciousness. On Sunday, the former golfer himself told the media that he had been diagnosed with a brain tumour and that he was set to undergo a biopsy Tuesday.
"In my whole career, I was one of the best saving obstacles on the golf course," said Ballesteros. "Now, I want to use all my strength to be the best as I stand before the toughest game of my life."
"Seve" ended his professional career last year. He won 70 golf tournaments, including five majors (three British Open and two Masters)
