Paris - Raymond Domenech will remain France coach and is to lead the team to the 2010 World Cup, the French football federation FFF said on Wednesday. The FFF president Jean-Pierre Escalettes said after a board meeting that Domenech "will fulfil his contract and stay on until 2010." Domenech was confirmed by 19 FFF officials with one abstention.

Domenech came under fire after France's first-round exit at Euro 2008 and just one win from the first three World Cup qualifiers.

But the FFF said that improvement has been made after an initial 3-1 defeat in Austria.

France defeated Serbia 2-1, rallied from 2-2 down to 2-2 in Romania on Saturday and overcame Tunisia 3-1 in a friendly on Tuesday night.

"A change of coach now would be ridiculous and weaken the team. That can not be our aim," said Escalettes.

The players agreed, with captain Thierry Henry calling for an end of the debate and saying that "the team supports the coach."
