Frankfurt - Germany's Bundesliga is less affected than other leagues by the global financial crisis, a football league (DFL) top official said in an interview published on Wednesday. "The Bundesliga may be a little less glamorous than other leagues, but definitely healthier and more reliable," DFL managing director Christian Seifert told the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung.
Seifert did not want to fully rule out more troubled times, but said that all top flight clubs had avoided deficits last season, that they are spending less than others on player salaries, and that there are no foreign investors in German football.
But Seifert said the DFL was looking how to generate further income from solid sources, including increasing the league from 18 to 20 points and the introduction of a league cup.
