Baghdad - Three Iraqi civilians and six Iraqi patrolmen were injured on Sunday in two separate attacks in Baghdad targeting Iraqi security patrols. A roadside bomb was detonated near a passing police patrol vehicle in the eastern Baghdad neighbourhood of Zayouna. Three patrolmen and two civilians were wounded.

The explosion damaged a patrol car. Security forces cordoned off the area and took the wounded to a nearby hospital for treatment, the Voices of Iraq (VOI) news agency reported.

Earlier today, another roadside bomb planted in al-Qahira neighborhood, close to the Higher Judicial Institute in north-eastern Baghdad, went off while an Iraqi police patrol vehicle was passing the location. That explosion injured three patrolmen and a civilian.

Separately, the US army reported Sunday that a US serviceman died on Saturday in a blast targeting his vehicle in Maysan province.

"A Multi-National Division - Center Soldier died Oct. 11 when an improvised explosive device detonated near his vehicle south of Amara in Maysan province," reported a US army release.

The death brings the number of US soldiers who have been killed in Iraq since the US-led invasion in March 2003 to 4,181.
