Koronadal City, Philippines - A Filipino student expelled from his school for misbehavior killed the school principal in the southern Philippines, police said Sunday. The suspect, who is a minor, allegedly waited for the victim outside the school gate in Surralah town in South Cotabato province, 980 kilometres south of Manila, and shot him once on the chest on Friday.

Despite suffering from a gunshot wound the victim, identified as Ricardo De La Cruz, 45, ran away but the suspect fired more shots that hit him at the back. De La Cruz expired while being treated at a hospital.

Senior Superintendent Robert Kiunisala said the parents of the suspect said they did not know the whereabouts of their son and promised to fully cooperate with the police.

The suspect was a third year high school student but was expelled from the school last month due to several cases of serious misbehaviour, including involvement in two previous shooting incidents.
