Islamabad - At least three people were killed Saturday in a missile strike by suspected US drones in Pakistan's restive tribal region along the border with Afghanistan, officials said. Two missiles hit a house used for Taliban meetings in Match village near Miranshah, the main town in North Waziristan district late in the evening.

"Three dead bodies and two injured have so far been retrieved from the debris," a security official, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said.

The casualties may rise because 10 to 20 people were believed to have been inside the house when it was struck, the official said.

At least two of the pilotless aircrafts, mostly used by US forces in Afghanistan, were seen flying in the area, reinforcing the suspicion that the missile might have been fired from them.

The house had belonged to a local councillor Omar Draz.

North Waziristan serves as a safe haven for Taliban and al-Qaeda fighters launching cross-border attacks on US-led international forces in Afghanistan, despite strong protests by the Pakistani government.

US forces have recently intensified their use of aerial attacks carried by drones on suspected militant hideouts. Saturday's strike was the fourth of its kind in around 10 days in North Waziristan.
