Kassel, Germany - A runaway train without a driver was stopped Friday in Germany after careering for 2 kilometres through the hilly city of Kassel. After the diesel locomotive pulling a low-loader waggon had slowly rolled past cars over a level crossing and kept going, an intrepid railwayman took a flying leap onto the running board, climbed into the cab and applied the brake.
Federal police are investigating how the engine managed to roll away from a shunting yard in the heart of the city. No one was hurt and no damage was done.
