Pristina - Kosovo President Fatmir Sejdiu on Friday congratulated former Finish president Marti Ahtisaari for winning this year's Nobel Peace Prize, saying it was given to the most deserving person. "This remarkable prize was without a doubt most deserved," local media quoted Sejdiu as saying.

Praised by the Nobel Committee for his peace mediation in Africa and Asia, Ahtisaari is regarded as a villain in Serbia and a hero in its southern province Kosovo, over his mediation in talks on the status of Kosovo in 2005-2007.

The talks failed, amid constant accusations of bias by Belgrade, but Ahtisaari hammered out a plan for Kosovo alone - a Western-backed road map to independence with safeguards for the Serbs and other minorities.

Kosovo's Albanian majority declared independence in February, using Ahtisaari's plan and is so far recognized by 50 countries including the United States, most of European Union and Serbia's closest neighbours, Macedonia and Montenegro.

"Kosovo will fulfill the promises given while striving for independence and will become a country where rights and freedom of all citizens will be respected, regardless of their national, religious or racial status," Sejdiu added.

The Kosovo assembly also welcomed Ahtisaari's latest achievement as a "victory of Kosovo" which will help in further recognition of its independence.

Shame
By: Think for Yourself , Sat, 11 Oct 2008 02:21:30 GMT

This is a disgrace and a shame - Nobel has once again gone political! How can they reward a prize to a person that presided over rewarding violence of NATO and ethnic cleansing by Albanians in Kosovo? The NATO actions in Kosovo have led to massive migration and suffering of hundreds of thousands of people.
Ahtisari Kosovo “peace” plan actions were not honest and do not respect international law – they have paved the way for Kosovo to supervision of illegally proclaimed independence. His actions have inspired new secessionist movements around the world. Now, it is praised as a peace inspiring decision. This award at this time is from Americans for support of their "peace making" war efforts around the world. - Not to mention his shameful support of Iraq war in which over a million of people have died - most of them Iraqi civilians.
One could say that Ahtisaari has more acted as spokesperson of US State Department and Nato than unbiased mediator. Besides Kosovo Ahtisaari also supported US propaganda about Iraq. Like in Kosovo one reason for attack was “humanitarian intervention” while in reality most of civil casualties were made when Saddam was an ally of USA. Like in Kosovo the attack to Iraq was made without UNSC approval against international law.

The Swedish institute TFF (Transnational Foundation for Peace and Future Research) called the decision "scandalous". Ahtisaari is a man who by his "mediations" fully endorses the "peace" brought about by militarist means and international law violations - rather than following the UN norm of "peace by peaceful means.", TFF said.

George Orwell had it right, welcome to 1984 which came a few years later. The world history is being re-invented and falsified, and we need to stand up against it for the sake of our future!
