Zagreb - Croatian Prime Minister Ivo Sanader said Monday evening that he was sacking interior and justice ministers, Berislav Roncevic and Ana Lovrin, over a high-profile assassination earlier in the day. The 28-year Ivana Hodak was killed in an apparent professional hit in her home in the capital Zagreb. She was the daughter of former deputy premier Ljerka Mintas Hodak and top attorney Zvonimir Hodak.

Sanader told reporters he would also sack the chief of Croatian police and pledged a crackdown on organized crime. He ordered the interior minister and the state attorney to return from their respective visits to United States and Great Britain.

"We will not tolerate organized crime and Mafia slayings. It is a horrible tragedy for full condemnation," Sanader said.

Zvonimir Hodak is the attorney of general Vladimir Zagorec, whom Austria extradited to Croatia last week to stand trial for the alleged embezzlement running into millions of dollars.
