Kathmandu - A Dutch tourist died after falling several metres down a narrow ravine in western Nepal, media reports said Sunday. Peter Ross, 49, fell near the western town of Pokhara, about 200 kilometres west of Kathmandu, Saturday afternoon, Nepal Samacharpatra newspaper reported.

The newspaper said Ross fell some 30 metres into the ravine caused by river erosion on the ground while photographing the surrounding areas.

There are several similar ravines in the area hidden by tall grass making them difficult to see.

He received head injuries and died before rescuers could reach him. Rescuers finally pulled out his body three hours after the accident.

Pokhara is a popular town with tourists beginning their trek around Annapurna mountains.

In June, a 2-year-old girl fell into a ravine in the same area. She was rescued alive after a 10-hour attempt.
