Madrid - Spanish Liga side are planning to take Nikola Zigic back from Valencia, according to a report in sports daily Marca on Wednesday. Santander are keen to strengthen their attack after seeing Pedro Munitis and Mohammed Tchite sidelined by injury.
They are keen to take the gigantic Zigic on loan from Valencia, where he has hardly played since signing from Santander in July 2007.
Zigic lined up to good effect with Munitis at Santander in the 2006/7 season, and the Canatabrian club would love to take the Serb back - without having to wait for the January transfer window.
Their plan, according to Marca, is to cancel the registration of veteran left-back Luis Fernandez, who is suffering from serious injury in both knees.
In this way they could register Zigic immediately, because he has not played a single minute this season for table-topping Valencia.
Valencia sporting director Fernando Gomez made it clear on Tuesday that Zigic could return on loan to Santander "as soon as he fixed up terms" with the north coast club.
Santander are in the UEFA Cup for the first time ever, having finished sixth in La Liga last season. On Thursday they are away to Finnish side Honka Espoo, who lost the first leg 1-0 two weeks ago in El Sardinero.
