Rio de Janeiro - Brazilian striker Robinho has fired Wagner Ribeiro, who had been his agent for the last six years. In a statement released Thursday in Santos in the Brazilian state of Sao Paulo, Robinho provided some explanation for the move.
"I am grateful for everything Wagner did for my career so far. However, our working cycle is over, and it is time for each one to get on with his life," the player said.
Robinho, who recently left Real Madrid for Manchester City, noted that he has "new goals" for his career in the Premier League, and that he will rely on his own father, Gilvan de Souza, to take care of his interests.
Brazilian sports media said that Robinho did not like Ribeiro's performance in the negotiations that led to his move to the Premiership. The talented striker held talks with Chelsea, which is now coached by former Brazil manager Luiz Felipe "Felipao" Scolari, before joining Manchester City.
Brazilian news agency Estado noted that Robinho thinks Ribeiro "rushed" to accept the proposal from Manchester City.
