Helsinki - Finnish police were alerted to several schools Thursday over reports of bomb threats or other violent acts. The threats surfaced after the bloodshed on Tuesday at a trade school in Kauhajoki, western Finland where a 22-year-old man killed 10 people at a trade school in Kauhajoki, western Finland before turning the gun on himself, dying later in hospital.
Some 500 students, teachers and other staff were Thursday ordered to evacuate a school in Keuru, central Finland over a bomb threat, Finnish news agency STT reported.
Police searched the premises without finding anything suspicious, the report said.
Threats have been snapped up in text messages and off the internet, and two young men were detained in Kajaani, central Finland, over making threats. STT said local police had been tipped off by Europol.
In neighbouring Sweden, a high school in the city of Vasteras, west of Stockholm was also evacuated Thursday after staff found a suspicious note, Swedish radio reported.
The pattern appeared to mirror events in the wake of another high school shooting in Finland in November 2007 that was also followed by a wave of threats.
