Heidenheim, Germany - Children with neurodermatitis or childhood eczema are twice as likely to contract asthma later in life than healthy children. Consequently, the disease has to be treated intensely to minimize respiratory problems during childhood and adulthood, said the German Association of Pulmonologists in reference to an Australian study of 8,500 people aged seven to 44.
It was already common knowledge that neurodermatitis can accompany asthma and hay fever. But pulmonologists say the disease can be transferred from the skin to the air passages.
