Hong Kong - A pirate radio station in Hong Kong has been ordered to halt broadcasts after a show for gay youngsters interfered with air traffic control transmissions, a news report said Thursday. The Wednesday night broadcast of Love Ark on rebel radio channel Citizens' Radio was picked up on the frequency of air traffic controllers last month, the South China Morning Post reported.

Hong Kong's Telecommunications Authority has now ordered the radio station to cease transmissions because broadcasts might "pose a potential hazard to aircraft operations," a spokesman said.

Citizens' Radio has been famous in recent years for hosting anti-government broadcasts and fights a constant cat-and-mouse game with officials in Hong Kong's Beijing-appointed administration.

Tsang Kin-shing, who runs the station, claimed the crackdown was a ploy to silence Citizens' Radio in the run-up to legislative council elections this coming Sunday.

Tsang insisted to the newspaper that his radio station would continue running programmes 15 hours a day, attacking pro-China candidates, up to and including election day on Sunday.
