Valletta, Malta - An investigation is underway in Malta after a nurse discovered the head of a mouse in her food in a hospital canteen. The nurse found the remains of the rodent on Monday while eating in the staff canteen at a state-of-the-art hospital inaugurated on the Mediterranean island-state in 2007, The Times of Malta daily reported.
Malta's state Health Division said hospital management took immediate action, with public health inspectors dispatched to investigate the case.
The catering company which provides meals for hospital staff, said it had destroyed all the stock furnished by its supplier, and was seeking legal advice.
The caterer said the mouse remains were probably imported from Belgium in a batch of frozen vegetables which were initially processed and packed in The Netherlands.
