New York - Beijing Olympic silver medallist Dinara Safina won her 17th match from her last 18 as a run of form continued on Thursday with a place in the third round of the US Open. The sixth-seeded Russian swamped Italian Roberta Vinci 6-4, 6-3 after reaching the finals in six of her last seven tournaments, including the Games and the French Open.
Safina took little more than an hours to go through, firing six acesand limiting her unforced errors to 17.
Polish ninth seed Agnieszka Radwanska advanced over Mariana Duque Marino of Columbia 6-0, 7-6 (7-3).
