Hanoi - Police in Vietnam have arrested a woman accused of strangling her boyfriend to death with her bra, a police official said Thursday. The 26-year-old woman was arrested Wednesday at her rented house in a small town in Quang Ninh province, 160 kilometers east of Hanoi, according to Le Sy Toan, chief investigator of the town's Police Department.
The alleged murder took place on Monday.
Toan said the 28-year-old boyfriend had previously beaten the woman, suspecting she was romantically involved with another man.
"The woman testified she was infuriated with her boyfriend, so she unbuttoned the bra she was wearing to choke him as he was lying on the bed in the rented house," the policeman said. "She said she just wanted to threaten him."
Toan said police found the bra near the body of the man when they arrived, but the woman was not unclothed. He said the brand of the bra was not clear, but that it was made of cotton and elastic.
"This is a very strange case," Toan said. "She must have been very strong to kill him that way."
UnderVietnam's penal code, a conviction for murder can carry the death sentence, but murdering someone under provocation is punishable by up to seven years in prison.
