Beijing - The International Taekwondo Federation imposed lifelong bans on Cuba's Angel Matos and his coach Leudis Gonzalez on Saturday after an angry Matos kicked the referee in the face at the Beijing Olympics. The incident happened during Matos' bronze medal bout against Kazakhstan's Arman Chilmanov in the 80kg category.
The Cuban was winning 3-2, but suffered an injury in round two and stayed on the mat longer than the one minute allowed.
The referee declared the fight over and awarded Chilmanov the medal, prompting Matos hit him.
The coach later justified the attack, claiming the Kazakhs had offered his fighter money to throw the bout.
