Rome - Italian Mafia leader Giuseppe Coluccio, head of the Calbrian 'Ndrangheta group and regarded as king of the drugs trade, was extradited from Canada to Italy on Wednesday. The 42-year-old, who was listed as one of Italy's 30 most wanted criminals, was arrested in Rome after being on the run for more than three years.
He had been detained on August 7 in Canada near Toronto, where he staying in his luxury penthouse overloooking Lake Ontario.
Coluccio is blamed for running a widely-connected international drugs trade, blackmail and developing a Mafia organization. He is believed to have dealt in cocaine together with the Sicilian Cosa Nostra, and is also believed to be tied to criminal organizations in Turkey.
Police found cash money of 1.5 million Canadian dollars as well as numerous cheques and jewellery in his penthouse.
